What was your inspiration?

This dress was also for my friend's daughter that was in a baby pageant. She really wanted the iconic Marilyn dress. Researching that dress was a little more challenging. I could really only find pictures of the dress while the skirt was flying into the air. I did end up altering the halter a little so it wouldn't be as bulky around the armpits. I shirred the back of the dress with elastic thread because it's more comfy for babies. I hate to see baby's in anything that's too constricting. The hardest thing about the dress was the pleated skirt. I did knife pleats, used a little starch ironed them in... and voila! Iconic dress for an 8 month old!

How absolutely sublime! While perusing the "Projects" board, I fell in love with the image -your concept (and the budding screen siren!) at first sight! But after clicking on the thumbnail and reading about your kindness and generosity with your talented and "outside-the-box" creative gifts - I was, and remain, SEW impressed! It's not every day that a person will not only make a friend's babygirl a paegant dress ( no matter how adorable she may be :-)! ), but will consider how the child herself will feel in the garment, and do the research to design a iconic design that looks polished, classy, fun, flattering, and completely appropriate for an * month old girl. This truly iconic dress (well, even white satin) usually screams sexuality because of its even more iconic namesake - but somehow you managed to endear all those adjectives I used in my last sentence, as well as replicate the garment's essential characteristics - all while removing any "inappropriate" associations that judgmental people might judgmentally use . . . Great success! I bet she will have that dress as a keepsake someday, and hand it down to her own daughter, maybe . . . thanks for posting this! I really think it is just perfect.
