Craftsy Block of the Month 2012 »

Our BOM Sampler Quilts can be quilted with FMQ. If you take Leah Days FMQ class she will be using one as a demonstration quilt This is one way we can quilt it and learn many FMQ designs.

Difficulty:

Category: Quilting

Type of item: Functional

For: Home

Style: Traditional, Classic, Whimsical, Casual

Materials

100% Cotton Fabric & Thread

What was your inspiration?

BOM quilting class

What are you most proud of?

The thing I'm most proud of is the intricacy of the many blocks and the methods accomplished to achieve them.

What advice would you give someone starting this project?

To start this project buy the right amount of fabric and the correct supplies. It just makes life easier. Try new things even though they are not in your comfort zone. You might find that you like something and it wasn't as hard as you thought it would be, then again you never know if you don't like something if you don't try it.

Really good looking quilt -- cranberry border sets it off beautifully.

I love that color and had some left over from a quilt I recently made my daughter. That made it even better. :-)

No, just go with a plain brown backing. Then use some white isacord thread. Mine turned out wonderful. I will post a pic of mine when the grandchildren open their quilts. Your quilt is so beautiful. I think if you add a pieced backing it would take away from the front is all. And the front is beautiful. I love the colors.

Thanks a lot! Thought I would make a creative back, but the more I think of it I think you're right - 1 color so you can see all the pretty stitching. My 4" border is a tone on tone wine/cranberry which is probably going to be my choice.

Thanks! Can't wait to follow Leah Days class FMQ to finish it up. Not sure of backing for it yet. Maybe a Creative Back would be in order!

Really like your minimal use of colors in various shades. This is a very striking quilt! Agree with your advice too, great information. Will be signing up for Leah's class, thanks.

Thank you. I tend to favor Colonial colors like cranberry, gold & navy. Love all the black, red & white quilts or ones in turquoise too. So hard to decide!

My background is an off white and the wide border is a tone on tone wine/burgundy. Your chocolate & Carmel sounds great for a "man quilt" :-)

Can't wait to FMQ it! Haven't figured the BACK out yet, but I bet it turns out as a "Creative Back."
