What was your inspiration?

I used a photo editing program (Picasa) to create a collage with all of my completed blocks. I am still not sure of the final arrangement, but it is fun to shuffle them around, virtually, and see the effect. I have never quilted anything... so I am looking forward to learning free-motion quilting... I signed up for Leah Day's class, and intend to follow her instructions for quilting each block of my sampler with a different design. Since I am just learning the techniques, I plan to use the "Quilt as you go" option, quilting each block individually before they are assembled together into the final quilt. Some of these blocks are pieced differently than Amy showed us, so I will have to be creative with the free motion techniques, also... Lol.... this will surely take a while to complete, but I am excited to continue learning! Thank you Craftsy for the wonderful classes!

What are you most proud of?

I am proud to have been a part of Craftsy's very first Block of the Month class! I am proud that I FINISHED EVERY BLOCK! (ok, well, I changed a couple... but I did the whole year of blocks!) This has been a wonderful learning experience. Thank you, Amy Gibson, and Craftsy. Especially --- Thank you to my fellow BOM'ers!! Loved all the supportive comments, and seeing your amazing blocks! Thanks for sharing!!! <3<3 <3

This is just so striking! Your color combo is wonderful, very modern and stylish! Love your idea on quilting each block, have also signed up for Leah's class, but have to make another quilt to try and learn this. Good luck with your quilting, know you will do well :)

Thank you, DeGramma. I am re-watching Leah Day's videos for preparing each block for quilting... it is goining to take me some time to figure out what to do for sashing, etc... I'm glad I don't have a deadline for this! I also was considering trying it out on a simpler and smaller project - just to try to learn the process... I look forward to seeing your quilt whrn it is finished! Thank you for commenting!

Was thinking the same think, trying out Leah's methods on a smaller project......really can't afford to keep having all my quilts sent out to a long arm contractor ;(....we'll have to keep each other motivated...LOL

Thank you, dkaym! I still have not begun the actual quilting... still need to decide on sashing, and Im planning to do the Quilt-as-you-go method that Leah Day teaches as part of her free-motion class.

do you tried at picasa with other colors for sashing...like red? I am curious!

Yes, there is an "eyedropper tool" which lets you choose a color from within the quilt. I wasn't thrilled by the looks, but I will play with some other colors. WhenI put the solid black, wider "sashing" my blocks showed up much better, so that is what I chose for sharing.

Looks amazing! I have Picasa and never thought about using it to layout my blocks...SUPER idea and one I'm definitely going to try! I still have one block left to complete and I'll be ready to give it a try!

Thank you! I never realized that I could use Picasa for this, either! My computer had mini crash, and I can no longer get to the photo editing program I was formerly using, so I had a look at some of the features that are in my Picasa program... glad I did! What I liked best is that it is very easy to re-arrange the order of the photos in the collage. (FYI -- I used the 8X10 format, as it kept the proportions accurate)

Your quilt is going to be spectacular! Quick tip - be sure you layout your actual blocks before deciding on a final design. It amazed me how things changed once I was looking at the real thing. Of course with one block at a time you'll still be able to make changes before the entire quilt is assembled. Enjoy!

I was thinking the same thing, Jean! I am CRAZY about your quilt and your sashing choices! Thank you for getting me fired up to finish up that last block. I am looking forward, very much to seeing your projects in Leah Day's class. Glad that you will be there to keep me inspired!

This is wonderful! You have a great eye for design & who can resist the red kitties. Clever idea to arrange blocks on the computer - definitely beats rearranging by hand. Take your time with the quilting & practice, practice! It will be worth it.

Thank you, Darns! I'm sure I will spend a lot of time arranging by hand, before this is all finished! I think I love the design process as much as the sewing! :)

Oh Di - how wonderful. I am so happy for you. You know I love the fabric and the blocks together look great. You may want to change them again and again but at some point you just need to say STOP and go with it. Great idea to have the picture you can refer to, especially if you want to quilt them one at a time. How I admire your talent. Great job!

If your finished quilt is anything like the virtual one you should be very proud of yourself! Great job. And I agree with your comments regarding Craftsy & Amy's calm guidance.
