What was your inspiration?

I designed the hat in early November, when all thoughts go to Christmas. Although I live in warm, sunny southern California, I know my relatives and friends in many areas are facing the prospects of a snowy holiday and winter season. So I came up with this design. The earflaps are thrummed to incorporate a soft, insulating layer of fleece while adding a design element that evokes the look of falling snow.

What are you most proud of?

I love it when I think of a design, sketch it on a piece of paper with my crayons, figure out how I'm going to make it so that it looks like what I've thought up .. and then it comes out so nice!

What advice would you give someone starting this project?

If you've never tried thrumming before, I encourage you to give it a try. I've included a thrumming tutorial in the pattern, with color photographs showing how I thrummed the earflaps. It's ridiculously easy! I promise!
