Learn It

This project was made as part of a Craftsy course:
Craftsy Block of the Month 2012 »

Instructions

I had no trouble with the flying geese. choosing the colors and fabric were hard because I do not sew a lot of this color scheme.

Difficulty:

Category: Quilting

For: Other

Materials

I recycled a 50's dress for the center star. The material has embroidery on it. It is thin cotton and a loose weave. The next layer of the star is yellow cotton, I had a few scraps in my stash. The light orange is scraps from my stash and I ran out and had to juggle for the second block. The dark orange is a synthetic scraps, from my stash. The white print is recycled from a curtain I think it is a rayon.

What was your inspiration?

I was looking a lot at the yellow, orange color schemes of several people in the class and thinking how pleasing that looked. I thought that stars should shine bright. I liked yellow for this.

What are you most proud of?

I kind of stepped out in faith to do this block that I have never done before. The flying geese were fun to do and doing so many I learned a lot about these little gems. I would like to try variations of these and use the tiny half squares aquired from this excercise.

What advice would you give someone starting this project?

Use cotton!!!! I did not have cotton in these colors in my stash. I will collect some cottons for future use in this color scheme. The material mix I used, made it a little difficult to handle and I had to starch to make it not woggly to scan into the computer.
