Pattern Description:

When I was a small child about 55 years ago we used to travel to the mountains quite often. We would pass thru a quaint town called Flat Rock, NC. Nicknamed "Little Charleston of the Mountains," Flat Rock has always been home to poets, playwrights, artists and entrepreneurs.

In the town there was a doll shop specializing in Raggedy Ann dolls. My father would never stop no matter how hard we begged. I am sure he did not have the money to purchase a doll so he did not stop to further disappoint my sister and me.

Recently, my husband and I drove by the old white building and he mentioned that his sister used to beg to stop at the same doll shop. Little did he know the same doll shop was my reason for designing my own Raggedy Ann doll pattern.

"Modern Annie" is made with nontraditional colors using designer cottons. She has jointed arms and embroidered features. She is not designed specifically as a toy but she has no loose or small parts and is washable. Her dress is a modern peasant type dress worn by so many little girls these days. Her striped stockings and shoes match her dress and are sewn as one piece with her bendable legs.

Doll kits with a finished embroidered face and CD pattern for $15.95 are available at my web site www.olajane.com.
