Pattern Description:

This is Rose. She's a flower fairy. See all the pretty flowers scattered across her wings?

You can turn any Dress Up Bunch doll into a flower fairy with this pattern! (I used the Poppy pattern for Rose.)

My daughter knew I was working on some fairy wings for the dolls. She'd seen me working through several prototypes, but I had been pinning the wings to the dolls and she hadn't realized that the final wings would attach with hook & loop tape. When I made this clear, I think I went up six notches in her estimation. :-) The conversation went something like this. . .

Me: See? They'll attach to the back of the doll with a strip of hook & loop tape.

Jo: You mean the wings will be removable? So you can play that your doll becomes a fairy?

Me: Sure.

Jo: Mommy. (*pause here for dramatic effect*) This is the Best. Thing. You've. Ever. Made.

Wow! I've seen my daughter play with dolls a thousand times. I knew that her favorite Disney Fairy was Rani - who sacrifices her wings to save. . . someone. Yet I never realized just how much play value it would add for the wings to be removable. I just thought it would be kind of cool. Silly me.

Now you can move up six notches in the eyes of the kids you're sewing for. Add some (removable) wings to your Dress Up Bunch dolls. :-)

With her wings off she can wear any of the Dress Up Bunch outfits. With her wings on she'll have to stick to wearing the pants, skirts and shorts.

Here's a quick summary of what you'll be able to do with the pattern. . .
1. Make fancy embroidered wings. (see main cover photo)
2. Make easy sparkly wings. (see additional photo)
3. Add a strip pf hook & loop tape to the doll so you can attach the wings.
4. Make a shimmery skirt. (see additional photo)

What You'll Need

For the sparkly wings:

1 sheet wool felt
1/3 yard sheer, sparkly fabric
2 3/4″ strip hook & loop tape

For the embroidered wings:

1 sheet wool felt
1 sheet Sulky Sticky Fabri-Solvy (optional but very strongly recommended)
embroidery thread
2 3/4″ strip hook & loop tape

For the skirt:

1/3 yard sheer sparkly fabric
12 inches 3/8″ elastic

Difficulty

The shimmery skirt and wings are VERY easy and fast to make. Seriously. You can make both in less than an hour.

The doll modification is also very easy.

The embroidered wings are easy - they use very basic embroidery stitches. But they do take some time. Expect to spend several lovely hours doing the stitching.
