I Love Lucy is one of my favorite shows, Aunt Bea is my hero, and I wish I was born in the 30s so I could have experienced the wonderful 1940's and 1950's way of life. I love hanging clothes on the clothesline, smelling the fresh air and feeling the gentle warm breezes, all while hearing the birds serenading me. I have a collection of vintage aprons, children's books, patterns, embroidery, greeting cards, magazines - I just love vintage everything!
I have 7 chickens, all named after great aunts and grandmothers, who bless me with the most beautiful brown eggs a girl could ask for. I have 6 raised beds to garden in, and I get dirt manicures all summer long working with my vegetables, flowers, and strawberries.
My business is Ric Rac and Polka Dots. Since pretty much everything I make has ric rac and/or polka dots on it, choosing a name was a no brainer. I must add that I also love glitter!
I have been designing doll, quilt, and clothing patterns for over 20 years. I have sold my patterns through Country Sampler, Country Marketplace, and various Better Homes and Gardens specialty and seasonal magazines. I have just been featured in the most recent issue of "Stuffed" magazine, with Doxie and her friend Roxie.
Back when I started out, patterns needed to be printed and mailed to your door, but now with the amazing world of computers, you can be starting to create your own little Doxie within minutes. I love it!
I hate, okay, hate is a strong word, let me say I don't love the actual sitting down and writing up part of making the patterns since I am technologically challenged, but I'm learning!!! Right click here, copy and paste there, add an arrow here, insert picture there . . . geez! On the bright side, now that we all use computers and have the internet, we are no longer limited to whatever products our hometown stores have to offer, but can visit wonderful sites like Craftsy and find unlimited amazing things.
I have just begun to offer my patterns for sale again, and I have about ten years of creations to put into pattern form. Yikes.
I am the type of person, like many of you, whose mind just never turns off. I walk through the garden and see beautiful flowers, and ideas pop in my head. I see beautiful fabric and envision dolls and quilts and sweet little dresses. I visit antique stores and the wheels are turning in my head as I dream up vintage embroidery inspired things. I hope you will visit my blog, http://ricracandpolkadots.blogspot.com/ as I share my adventures and projects with all of you out there in blogland. Thank you so much for visiting my page, and please do come again, as I will be adding much, much more, including patterns for quilts and children's clothing. I hope to see you soon!!!!
