Pattern Description:
The Dragonfly Rider checks on the forest every morning and carries messages back and forth in his satchel. The 9 inch rider wears leather boots and gloves and a silk tunic. His face is sculpted in 100% cotton fabric, and his hair and rooted eyelashes are made of Tibetan Lamb.
The Dragonfly has elegant, translucent wings with an iridescent glow to them. His torso has a poseable armature that is wrapped in ribbon and can be covered or lightly embellished with bead work.
Together this pair can be placed above a pedestal to appear flying or suspended from a ceiling fro a more natural look. Place them near your plants and they will both keep smiling forever!
Sizing / Finished Measurements:
- 3-D Crystal Lacquer
- Sequins
- Gold jewelry wire 22 or 24 gauge
- Wood for base- 3 pieces in 3 sizes for a stair step effect
- Drill for wood bases
- Paint for wood base
- Small paint brush
Materials:
- Fat half yard 100% cotton tightly woven flesh fabric
- 1/3 yard thin silk
- Scrap of coordinating silk 3" square
- 1/3 yard fabric for pants- may be cotton or deer suede; not much stretch
- 2 colors or more Pig Skin leather (DollmakersJourney.com) for boots, belt, satchel and gloves
- Heavy thread like button and carpet thread or Pearl Cotton and a needle it will fit into
- Prismacolor pencils: Henna or choice of cheek color
- Gel Pens: one each light and dark of eye color choice (blue, green, etc.)
- 2 1/2" Styrofoam egg
- 8" square piece of knit for dragonfly head
- Tibetan Lamb skin (hair)
- Assorted seed beads size 11 and size 8 or similar sized beads of choice
- 1/3 yard knit fabric cut into 1" strips for dragonfly legs - stretch velvet is nice
- Bi-colored wired ribbon or choice of wired ribbon for dragonfly Choose at least 3 yards of 2 ribbons
- Batting cut into 1" strips, I like Warm and Natural
- 2 large black buttons for Dragonfly eyesoval if available or shiny black dimensional paint
- Fiberfil- I prefer Airtex
- Nymo beading thread to match beads
You Will Also Need:
- Freezer paper
- Matching thread
- Basic sewing kit
- Thread to match fabrics
- Fabritac Glue
- Grrrip Glue and a tiny tip if you have one
- 3" Doll sculpting needle
- 10 pipe cleaners
- White floral tape
- 12 inch piece of 18 gauge wire
- Workable Fixatif

Judy was the editor/ owner of The Association For People Who Play With Dolls newsletter for four years until health issues prevented her from continuing. She maintained online workshops and is excited to finally be publishing new doll patterns again, as well as traveling to teach!
