Pattern Description:

Have you been on a Disney cruise? Are you going on one? You can join with a group of other Disney cruise-goers and participate in exchanging small gifts during the cruise but you will need what is called a "Fish Extender" to do that. A Fish Extender is a group of pockets, on a piece of material that hangs from the metal "fish" that is outside your stateroom door. The top portion is where you put your family name (because you will exchange first and last names, sex, ages of everyone participating from your cabin) and each pocket will have their first names. Gift givers tuck in gifts for each person participating as often as every day, or once during the cruise, depending on which you select. It is like a secret Santa idea.

You can purchase Fish Extenders from other sellers online, but I wanted to provide a sewing pattern for one for those who like to make their own things. I do not have a fancy embroidery machine, most of us don't, but most of us can figure out how to print out a customized set of names to slip in the clear pockets on the Fish Extender. You can choose fabric that coordinates,or different fabrics that represent each person. You will find dozens of different Disney character fabrics out there. I chose a nautical print for mine because I also want to use them as a wall organizer after my cruise.

Why is this Fish Extender better than many of those out there that you can buy? I have added simple loops, deep pockets that also expand, allowed more space between the pockets all to hold more stuff! These elastic loops are perfect for holding pens, tubes, lollipops, and even a carabineer that will hold all the key chains,or mug handles, leaving more space inside the pockets! All the pockets are interfaced for strength and durability. It is flexible so it will be easy to pack. The pattern is available for instant download following payment so you can buy it now and start it now. You can afford to make them specific to your cruise for special holidays, a wedding, a birthday, etc.

You will learn about sewing with vinyl, installing grommets, and using trims. I would suggest this pattern for an Advanced Beginner.

Please check my other patterns for some great Fish Extender gift ideas. Make some of the smaller items out of Disney themed fabrics.

I love to make things that I like to use, so I have a wide variety of patterns as a result of that. I have sewn for more years than I care to admit to...let's just say, for decades. I enjoy making patterns and sharing them with others. I try very hard to make them as easy to understand as I can. It is my hope that this is a way of helping others make things they like to use too.
