Basic Skills Necessary:

  • Straight stitch
  • measure out and cut rectangles

Pattern Description:

The Case Study series revolves around a container design that is sturdy, yet soft. With a padded foam core and simple cuboid shape, the architecture lends itself to a number of storage and transport applications. The straightforward construction process involves basic sewing and crafting techniques. A number of looks from clean utilitarian to boutique designer are possible depending on fabric and embellishment choices.

The Basic Box is great for gifting, organizing, and protecting all sorts of items including:

Hair Accessories
Sewing Supplies
Fabric or Yarn
Spare Change
CDs & Video Games
Wrapped Candies &
Baked Goods

The boxes are stackable, and the different sizes can be nested. The square lid is perfect for personalization with applique or embroidery, and is a wonderful way to show off a quilt block or needlework.

Sizing / Finished Measurements:

  • small (5"l x 5"w x 4"h), medium (7"l x 7"w x 51/2"h), and large (9"l x 9"w x 7"h).


  • 3 different fabrics, 1/8 to 5/8 yard of each depending on size and options
  • Fleece
  • Fusible interfacing
  • 6 mm craft foam

You Will Also Need:

  • fabric marking pen/pencil
  • hook and loop tape OR magnetic fastener
  • Hot glue gun and glue stitcks
