Basic Skills Necessary:

  • Experience: you will need to have advanced beginner sewing skills to make the pants. Neat and accurate seaming is essential. Overlocking is best to finish the seams; alternately use the zigzag stitch on your plain machine. Knit fabrics will not usually fray so overlocking is not essential. Follow the sewing tutorial closely to be sure to sew everything in the correct sequence. Read through the tutorial before starting.

Pattern Description:

The Roscoe Pants are fun to wear and easy to make. The Tutorial shows how to make two versions of the pants: the plain pant with contrast knee splices and the contrast pocket and side stripe option. The fit is super slim and modern with an elastic pull-on waist plus a tie, deep front pockets and patch pockets on the back. The cuffs can be plain hemmed or with elastic inserted. Make them in contrasting colours with contrast topstitching as in the photo samples or simply make all in one colour.
For a basic quick sew sweat pant eliminate the knee seam/splits and waist tie options from the pattern.

PDF SEWING PATTERN: the pattern can be printed on a desk top printer using 8.5"x 11" / A4 size paper or Letter size if you are in the USA. The pattern file includes a very detailed sewing tutorial with step by step photos. The computer made digital pattern comes as a color coded, full size range nest with seam allowances included. Instructions for printing and assembling the pattern are included. All seam allowances and cutting instructions are marked on the pattern pieces.
It is best to print out only the pattern pages and view the tutorial on your computer to zoom the photos. Please read the printing instructions on the Test Square page and the pattern assembly instructions on the Layout Plan page before you start.

Sizing / Finished Measurements:

  • Sizes: 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 8, 10, 12 to fit children 2 to 12 years old. Always check the size chart for your correct size, waist and height measurements are the best guide. The chart is at the end of the tutorial pages and the measurements are body sizes. Ease has been added to the pattern.
  • A size chart in inches and centimetres is included in the pattern

  • Fabrics: Fleecy is the most suitable to use. Other minimal stretch knits like Ponte and medium weight jerseys would also work. Not suitable for non-stretch fabrics.

You Will Also Need:

  • Fabric in a contrast colour; cotton lining for pocket facings, matching thread; contrast thread; 25mm/1" elastic, cord for tie.
