Years and years ago, when I began sewing patchwork dresses, I searched far and wide for some sort of pattern or advice to make my journey easier. Instead, I ended up learning this pattern entirely through trial and error.
Recently, I decided to share this design in order to give other budding seamsters and seamstresses a head start on their journey.
This is the base pattern for all of my hippie patchwork dresses. I do not include instruction on patchwork itself, but I do provide a thorough, step-by-step picture tutorial and analysis of this dress design.By the time you have made your first dress, you will have a true understanding of how to transform some basic shapes and measurements into your very own corset back festival dress!
Included in the file is 78 pages of extensive background about this dress design, thorough instructions for construction including over 200 full color pictures, embellishment ideas, care instructions, and even tips on selling dresses in your own shop.
I should note that the example dress that is documented in this tutorial is pictured here. It is the short dress with the dark blue galaxy print. The bright patchwork dresses in the other pictures are examples of what I have created from this base pattern.
This pattern is a culmination of my past ten years of experimental dressmaking, sifted and condensed into a set of simple instructions. It is the pride of my work, so far. I hope you enjoy the read!
