Sewing has always been my hobby and my profession. I first trained as a tailor as a young girl after which I worked for some fabulous designers. To fit work around my son I became a teacher of Textiles and Product Design. When my son finished school and moved to the USA I decided to start my own business and do what I love best; draft patterns and teach beginners and advanced sewers how to make their projects look professional. I hope you enjoy my patterns and instruction. Now we followed our boy to the US and I get to sew in the beautiful Californian sunshine!View all patterns by designer (51) »
Kitty Cat Dress
Please note this is the US letter size format. For European A4 format refer to the listing: Kitty Cat Dress - European A4 format.
This pattern was inspired by Hollie who just loves cats! Your girl will love this dress too. Its versatile and great for the summer but also looks fabulous with a t-shirt in the colder season.
It's moderately easy to make and has a gorgeous round yoke which I lined in contrast fabric. The pockets are the main attraction on this dress but you can also leave them for a different look. As an example I made a dress with a wide hem trim featuring my favourite VW van and because not every girl is a 'girlie' girl I kept the bow really small and placed a button over the top.
If you have made a pattern of mine this is definitely upping the stakes a bit, as I added a fastening to the back. Its an easy way to fasten a garment and the technique is the same as you would use for a gentlemen's sleeve opening.
For the dress I used a soft denim and for the yoke a fine cord. The yoke lining needs to really pop so go wild. Its a great idea to match the yoke lining and the seam finish. If you don't have a serger use bias binding to cover the rough edges. Check the website where I also show you how to make your own bias binding for the seam finish.
Whether you are an expert or just starting out the video tutorial will make it very clear what you have to do. If you are unsure if you can handle this pattern then simply watch the video to reassure yourself before you purchase the pattern. And for all those of you that love to keep all instruction neatly in a folder,my instructions booklet (attached to size 2) contains page after page with photo's just to make doubly sure you know what to do. The pattern is available for immediate download so you can get started straight away.
Your pattern comes with all the sizes - 2, 3, 4, 5 & 6
None of my patterns are multi sized so there is one size per file, this saves a lot of paper and confusion as to which line you have to cut.
Every pattern is hand drafted and then imported into a CAD program to make sure you have a pattern that fits and looks good too! No pattern is automatically graded or computer generated with software. Having trained as a tailor 30 years ago I know that pattern generating software can never replace the skill of a pattern drafted by hand. Try my patterns and you will love the fit. No loose armholes that are cut too low or sleeves that hang of the shoulder.
The pattern pack includes:
A pattern in PDF format ready to print on regular letter size paper with assembly instructions

No serger is required to make this dress.
