Basic Skills Necessary:

  • Basic sewing machine skills, a small amount of hand work.

Pattern Description:

We live with woods behind our house and our young grandaughter was a little bit spooked by the sound of the owls at night. I started picking up cute owl-related items for her as our little inside joke and decided to create this bag as one of them. :)

This owl would work as a pajama bag, small tote bag or (if you use insulated batting instead of cotton batting) a lunch bag. You can also omit the handle (leave the loops for ear tufts!) and stuff it with a small pillow form for use as a snuggle pillow for a child.

Sizing / Finished Measurements:

  • Approximately 9" x 11"

  • Outer fabric/handle 1/2 yard
  • Lining fabric - 1/3 yard
  • Scrap or fat eighth for yo-yo eyes
  • Yo-Yo maker (optional)
  • Scraps of black for covered button eye centers (or large flat buttons)
  • Covered button kit (optional)
  • Metal of plastic swivel hooks or clips
  • Webbing for handle (of not making a fabric handle
  • Craft size cotton batting (or insulated batting, if making a lunch bag)
  • 12 inch zipper

You Will Also Need:

  • Sewing machine with a zipper foot
  • Large needle/thread for sewing on eyes
