As this tote features two large quilt blocks, a basic understanding of patchwork or quilting would help. Aside from that, there's only a small amount of hand sewing, and if you can sew a straight line with your machine, you're good to go!

Pattern Description:

This generous sized tote bag with the bright yellow appliqud sunflower will have you happily carrying your shopping, oversized bits and pieces or your craft goods to your next class.

This bag is the same size as one of those recycled shopping bags and features a different simple pieced block on both front and back. The two-tone sunflower is appliqud in the raw edge method, and has a wonderful beaded centre for the lumpy sunflower seeds.

Sizing / Finished Measurements:

Finished dimensions of this tote are 14 inches wide x 14 inches high and 9 inches deep.

Materials:

You will Need: 1 metre (1 yard) dark navy blue fabric for bag sides, handles and lining, Fat quarters will be more than sufficient in the following colours for the two pieced sides: mid royal blue fabric and mid dusty blue fabric for the sunflower side; pale blue fabric and rich mid blue fabric for the back pieced block. (You may choose to re-use the mid royal blue fabric in place of the rich mid blue fabric.), Fat eighth or equivalent of plain bright sunflower yellow fabric for the appliqud flower, Fat eighth or equivalent of plain mustard yellow fabric for the appliqud flower, Small piece of plain rusty brown fabric for flower centre, Orange or brown coloured wooden beads for the flower centre. (We used approx. 80, 1/4 inch beads.), 11/2 metres ( 11/2 yards) light-weight fusible interfacing/stabiliser, Small amount fusible webbing for applique, Piece of template plastic (14 x 9 inches) to strengthen the base of the bag.

You Will Also Need:

A rotary cutter would help, although is not essential. You will also need orange/brown thread to match the beads.
