Thank you for this tutorial. I am now learning to sew bags with zippers and have learned a lot with this one, especially to shorten the zip. I am busy sewing a Cross Body bag with an adjustable strap and will hopefully finish the bag today. I am on my own when it comes to sewing and the Internet is my classroom and library. Thanks again.

I love doing small bags but was getting increasingly aggravated at the ends of my zippers not looking neat. This is an excellent solution. Thank you

I love sewing but am new to zippers. My question is when you say to sew across the bottom of the zipper and then cut the end off...if I sew across the zipper using my machine, won't the needle break when I sew across the teeth of the zipper?

If you use a zipper with nylon teeth, your sewing machine needle will sew fine across the teeth. If you use metal teeth, I tell you to use your hand wheel and slowly turn the hand wheel toward you as you move across the metal zipper teeth so if the needle touches the teeth you can move the zipper slightly until the needle goes through. If you use a heavy plastic teeth zipper, you will also want to turn the hand wheel of the sewing machine to sew so you don't break a needle. That's why I suggest using a nylon zipper like I use in the photographs.

This morning I shorten the zip using the hand wheel and I works real good.
