How strong are the sides? I'm in the process of making 5 (gifts for friends), and I feel the sides may be too 'soft' and won't stay upright. I could add a sew-in interfacing, or maybe some iron-on stabiliser to the outer fabric. But then I'd need the same stabiliser on the sides or it would sit weirdly.
Does it sit 'straight' like in the photos - without any contents in the bag?
Great design, I'm really excited to share how these turn out :)

Hello. I think using a stiff interfacing like peltex would work as long as the peltex was in one section and not pieced. The best way to do this would be to sew the outer as directed but do not topstitch sides; cut the peltex the length of the side by the width minus seam allowances (35 x 3 1/4"); insert it into the bag and topstitch in place. This will be a little tricky as peltex is pretty stiff and slightly unforgiving - but you can do it!
I don't think you would need to do the front or back with the stiffener. Amy
