Basic Skills Necessary:

  • sew a straight line
  • use a rotary cutter
  • sew specific seam allowances (1/4", 1/2")

Pattern Description:

This is a PDF pattern, printable at home, with 19 pages of photographs and instructions to make a backpack. It is small enough for a preschooler or kindergardener to wear without breaking their back, but Big Enough to hold all their essentials, including folders, a binder, and a lunch box.

The Backpack has padded straps(with fun fabric on the underside), a flap-front pocket (with optional velcro), and a hidden attached pouch (perfect for stashing lunch money; it can't fall out and get lost!).

Sizing / Finished Measurements:

  • sized to fit a preschool-early elementary child, or, with longer straps, an adult

Materials:

  • 1/2 yard non-directional fabric (1 yard if directional)
  • 1/4 yard contrasting fabric (optional)
  • 5" x 45" fusible fleece
  • 18" zipper
  • 6" zipper

You Will Also Need:

  • pins
  • sewing machine
  • thread
  • iron, ironing board
  • rotary cutter, mat
