What's a tessellation? It's a bit like a puzzle, where a shape (like this cute paper pieced fish) can be repeated and interlocked, with no spaces between shapes. My pattern lets you sew a quilt of any size covered in these fish - a fun way to use up lots of scraps.
The Tessellating Fish paper pieced quilt pattern includes marked paper piecing patterns & complete instructions. The pattern pieces as given make a 3" x 5-3/4" (7.6 x 14.6 cm) fish. Refer to the resizing chart to enlarge or reduce the fish pattern to your desired size.
Successful sewing of this INTERMEDIATE LEVEL paper piecing pattern hinges on careful advance planning of the color scheme and fabric placement, using the coloring page provided. The Tessellating Fish quilt pattern is NOT suitable for beginners and no basic paper piecing instructions are included.
Add 3-dimensional prairie point fins as a fun detail for baby quilts and wall hangings. Alternatively, paper piece them or even leave them off entirely. Add the eyes with embroider or fabric markers. On projects for children older than 3 years, beads or buttons can also be used.
