Pattern Description:

This pattern is one of the twenty-eight 8" square state bird applique blocks from my quilt 'Symbols of Our Unity'.

The Ruffed Grouse is the state bird of Pennsylvania. The pattern contains the layout for the applique and detailed embroidery instructions. I used Fabrico fabric markers to create the ruffed edges on the neck and head of the bird because I didn't have the 'perfect' piece of fabric. Ghordian Knot Stitch is my go-to stitch if I need a fluffy look to my embroidery. Both left and right handed instructions are included for the embroidery.

This 8" pattern is perfect for creating a mini-quilt to fit the Ackfeld 12" x 14" table stand. Make one for that friend who resides in Pennsylvania.

Visit my website, http://www.artbyalexa.com to see the whole quilt.
I also have free downloadable instructions for back baste applique.
