Do you have to use jelly rolls for this or can I use just white and black material and if so what size strips do I cut. Thanks can't wait to make this

No, you do not have to use a jellyroll. Yardage works just fine. Always remember a jellyroll is a 2 1/2" precut, and I believe each jellyroll contains just under 3 yards of fabric. And yes, I can be corrected on that if someone knows exactly how much yardage is in a jellyroll. My calculations came out to 2.77777....
