discount sewing supply now has this item in stock. I bought it from there very recently. I also picked up the pillow kit and the backing fabric. You get 5 or 6 choices of backing fabric. Patricia from discount sewing supply is very nice. she sends a copy of the instructions with your order. Her hubby was in the hospital recently and that slowed the business down for a few days, they are running full steam right now. Quality fabrics in the kit and exact same fabric in the kit as in the picture.

That is your virus protection software doing it's job. Any file downloaded from the internet could contain viruses. Anything from Craftsy should be fine and I know for a fact that this pattern is fine. I have never had a single issue. Can you make it larger?

suzy6281 on craftsy.com
suzy6281  May 22, 2015
Flag as inappropriate

The square themselves are laid out in no particular order. I just moved them around until I found a look that I liked. The only thing to keep in mind is that you want to alternate light background and dark background. (If that makes sense). If I was going to make it larger, I would multiply the original numbers by 3 for a full size quilt. If the pattern calls for (2) of that square, then Id make (6). There would be six additional squares that Id have to make in order to get the 42 squares needed for full size. I would just pick my favorites.
This could translate to 4x for Queen, and 5x for King, with a few extra that you would have to make up.
Hope that helps. I try not to go too big with these beginners patterns in order to give those that are new to quilting a project that doesnt overwhelm.

The original pattern used 5 different black prints, 5 different white prints, and 10 different red prints, and calls for 22" of each print. Multiply that by 4 and you should have enough for a queen size.

Or in the case of say a three color queen size- you would need about 4-3/4 yards of each of the three colors.

Hope that helps!

This was one of my first quilting project and it turned out great. I went to several fabric stores and bought the red, white & black materials, got lots of different designs and amts. Then went home and started cutting....in no time flat the top was done, put it all together and had it quilting. It is absolutely beautiful and it really is easy. Thanks for the easy pattern, it look so hard for a beginner but is truly easy.

I just put together two squares but found they do not measure out the same. New at quilting. Using jelly rolls, everything measure out but when I put two squares together I am about an half inch off. All my seams are 1/4 inch.

I would double check your seams to be sure they are 1/4 inch consistently. If you are using jelly rolls, then the fabric should have a consistent cut.

I am a novice quilter. If I increased the number of squares (across and down), would this pattern work as a queen bedspread? Any suggestions?

suzy6281 on craftsy.com
suzy6281  January 16, 2015
Flag as inappropriate

Hi! By my calculations, you would need a total of 4 of the black and white jelly rolls and 4 of the red jelly rolls to come up with a queen sized quilt measuring 88 x 100. That would be (7 ea.) 12" blocks across, and (8 ea.) 12" blocks down, with a 2 sashing all around. (That is a total of 56 ea. 12" blocks).

Hope that helps!

I think this would be perfect for my grandson. He is a Michigan State fan and wants a quilt using team fabric. I think I could substitute green MI State fabric for the red and then use black and white fabric for the rest. How much fabric will I need to make a twin size quilt? I'm a new quilter and have made a few table runners. This will be my first quilt project. Thanks!

Hi Donna,

By my calculations, you would need about 4.5 yards of fabric total for a twin size (not counting backing). Divide that by how many colors you want to use and you have it! Would love to see what you come up with!

Multiply that by 5 and you should have enough for a king size.

Hope that helps!

Hi! By my calculations, you would need a total of 4 of the black and white jelly rolls and 4 of the red jelly rolls to come up with a queen sized quilt measuring 88 x 100. That would be (7 ea.) 12 blocks across, and (8 ea.) 12 blocks down, with a 2 sashing all around. (That is a total of 56 ea. 12 squares).

If you decide to go even larger, 8 blocks across x 9 blocks down = 72 blocks, or 6 of the black and white jelly rolls and 6 of the red jelly rolls.

I am having a lot of fun making this. I cut my own strips as it is hard to get ready made ones where I live. I am using my first few for a table runner and I'm making an extra large quilt for my husband in green and gray.

Hi Vermont! As the designer of the other pattern in question, I just want to point out that my pattern originally ran in the Winter issue of Fons & Porter's Easy Quilts, which was on newsstands beginning January 2013. I just wanted to put that out there so people realize I did not copy any other design when designing my pattern. Nor do I think that this designer copied me eitherthis is a traditional block that anyone can put their own twist on! I have no problem with another similar pattern being out there for free, especially since this quilt is at a different size than mine and uses jelly rolls instead of fat quarters or fat eighths, as mine does. So I hope you'll extend me the same courtesy for my own pattern. Thanks! : )

Yes, the pattern is a traditional tessellating quilt block, which you can find on many different quilt block sites. My twist was the use of color to create a windmill design. Also, the use of jelly rolls in multiples of black and white prints, creates a unique display. :)

A friend and I bought strips enough to make two of these but twice the size. We plan to donate them to the local VFW to raffle. We are trying to get the Vietnam memorial wall to our local city and the money raised from our quilts will help. I will try to post pix.

Hi. To the right of the quilt pic should be a box that says "add to cart" . Click on that and it will show that you "bought" it for free. Then you should be able to download the pattern and instructions. If you haven't already, you may need to join Craftsy. Hope this helps.

My Mother made this quilt during WWII and it was spotted and the MPs came and asked to inspect the quilt and her home. They thought it was a swastika. She had to hang is color and windmills turned over until the war over!

I don't normally post comments, but for this quilt I just had to.

I loved the look of this quilt so much I purchased the whole kit from
Discount Sewing Supply as I wanted mine to look just like the picture. I'm a beginner, and I made the quilt top in 2 days. All I have to do now is add the backing and bind it. I could not believe how EASY it was to make. The pattern looks really complicated, but it was rated for a beginner and believe me, it was just that. This was my first time using jelly rolls. I'm HOOKED..

Thank you Suzy6281. Your instructions are clear and simple to follow. I really appreciated all of the pictures you included in the pattern. I could tell at a glance if I was making a mistake. I'm now going to make your Summer Jewels quilt as well.

Do you need 2 jelly rolls of 20 strips so you have 2 of each strip or is one roll of 40 different strips OK?

I don't use jelly rolls, but these quilt patterns are perfect for scraps. I make baby quilts from scraps for charity and to practice free motion quilting.
