A few people have had better luck downloading directly from my website, sewhooked.com. Just look for "Harry Potter" under Free Quilt Patterns.

Hey Jennifer,

this is my first time quilting and im just getting this project started. But before i go cutting my fabric, i was wondering... do the pattern pieces you designed and provided include a seam allowance.. or should i be cutting out the pattern piece, pinning it to the fabric and adding on a 1/4in my self before moving forward? Im excited and nervous and really dont want to mess this up..

Thank you

Hmm, I'm not sure what the download issue is. If it helps, I have a quilt along going on right now with this quilt over on fandominstitches.com. You can find all of the patterns individually there under Harry Potter or you can click on the Project of Doom banner to see the weekly posts.

Hi there,

Hum, well, you're the first one I know of to have this problem, and the pattern downloaded when I tested it, so I'm not sure what to say about that. I will tell you that the individual patterns are also available on my website, sewhooked.com, and we're having a quilting along right now on fandominstitches.com with these patterns plus some new additions.

I hope that helps. :)

The zip file is the 2011 version. I'll update the file here later this year after the quilt along is complete and all the updated patterns have been released.

I plan on making this, but will need to order a few colors that I do not normally quilt with. Should I buy a yard, 1/2 yard, or a FQ each for the cauldron, hat, and Hedwig? I want enough, but will probably never use the scraps. Thanks in advance!

Hi there! It took me a while to hunt up a photo of a finished block, but I did! hermione_jean on flickr make a Dark Arts version of the quilt. You can see her block here: https://www.flickr.com/photos/hermionejean/5762989687/

Also, just FYI, there is an updated Eagle Owl pattern on fandominstitches.com under Harry Potter. It's based on the original Project of Doom version, but was updated just this year.

Happy stitching!

Sorry for the very late reply. To enlarge, I cut the pattern pieces apart and enlarge with a copy machine. You can also take them to a copy shop and have them do it for you on larger paper.

Since the Project of Doom quilt is a foundation paper pieced quilt, I would recommend learning how to paper piece before attempting this one. I highly recommend Carol Doak's Craftsy class. It is wonderful! There are also some acceptable tutorials on YouTube.

Jessica, I've had quite a few people jump in feet first as beginners. If you can sew a straight line, you can paper piece! Definitely work through a tutorial or a class and then give it a try. (I have a tutorial in my shop here on Craftsy.) The blocks in the quilt are a variety of skill levels so by the time you finish, you will be an expert!
