This looks like Jenny Bowker's pattern...which I believe is copyrighted...

This is a traditional block. I have had this quilt available for about 8 years, so maybe she copied it from me.

I just checked her website. She copyrighted it in 2011, so I would say I was there first.

Thanks for your response. I know that traditional patterns resurface and are 'redesigned' all the time...but I have never seen this as a traditional block...what is the name?

I have no clue. It's really just triangles and squares.

and rectangles.

I will keep my eye out for it. Thanks for your responses! I do not know where Jenny first got her block...she is in Australia, I think, so perhaps she saw something similar down there. I know she was upset when someone else started to sell her pattern .... it gets quite complicated.

Thanks for your info. She obviously has no reason to be upset, as she was not the first, and the way the coloring is done on mine, appears to be the way she colored hers. I think she must have seen mine before. Now, I would be upset, if all of the sudden someone made Esther the Easter Chicken and claimed it for her own, but I think there is a difference.

I don't know if she has even seen your version of the pattern...her version is also on sale on Craftsy...I just noticed that they seemed so similar...I think construction techniques and sizes may vary with different patterns, and that is probably how people are able to copyright their versions of old traditional patterns. Esther is a cute pattern. I have a couple original patterns that I am planning to put on Craftsy at some point...probably why I have been curious about all of this. Thanks so much again for clarifying things.

PS. I just discovered another pattern for this quilt in my stash called North Wind - it is paper pieced and was copyrighted in 2003 by Connie Spurlock...Jenny's pattern is not paper pieced...again...different methods, different sizes allow for different copyrights, I think.
