Pattern Description:

Kittens are a little girls delight! The Soft Kitty quilt features four playful kittens and a butterfly. This quilts construction is a combination of both patchwork and raw edge applique methods.

This is a fat quarter friendly pattern. This pattern includes full colour photos, material lists, fabric cutting, quilt layout, easy to follow instructions, full size traceable applique pattern piece sheets and full size placement sheets, quilting suggestions and binding instructions.

This pattern is for personal use, but permission is granted to make this item to sell, provided the items are handmade by you and you credit Lorna McMahon of Sew Fresh Quilts for the design. No mass production allowed.

Materials:

For the quilt top you need:
For the 3" squares - need an assortment of solids and prints - these are suggestions: - Fat Quarter or 1/4 yard each of Green, Blue, Yellow and Pink Polka Dot fabrics - Fat Quarter or 1/4 yard of 1Small to Medium print - Fat Quarter or 1/4 yard of 2Small to Medium plaid - Fat Quarter or 1/4 yard of 1Small to Medium print Pink with White background - Fat Quarter or 1/4 yard of 2Small to Medium print Pink with White background
For the 6" squares: -1/2 yard of Light Blue -1/2 yard of Green print
For the 9" squares: -1/2 yard of Light Pink (includes one 6" square and 3" squares)
For the appliqu kittens: -1/2 yard of Brown -1/2 yard of White -Fat Quarter or 1/4 yard of Smokey Black tone on tone -Fat Quarter or 1/4 yard of Beige -Fat Quarter or scraps of Pink for ears and noses
Backing Fabric: Flannel, or other backing fabric, large enough to cover a 40" x 45" area.
Binding Fabrics: Suggested choices: Paw prints, Stripes, Pink solid, or Pink polka dot. For 1/2" double fold, cross grain binding: -1/2 yard of fabric for 4 binding strips at 2 1/2" wide. OR For 1/2" double fold, cross grain binding with faux flange: -1/4 yard for 4 (eg. Paw prints) fabric main (outer) binding strips at 1 1/2" wide. -1/4 yard for 4 Brown fabric flange (accent) strips at 1 3/4" wide.

You Will Also Need:

Quilt batting of your choice in a size that is at least 40" x 45".
Quality Thread in your choice of color. I used white thread for piecing and quilting.
Quality Thread to match your kittens and butterfly fabrics.
1/2 yard of Lightweight paper backed fusible web (I use Pellon 805 Wonder-Under)
Appliqu pressing sheet (Recommended)
