Pattern Description:

This pattern is one of the twenty-eight 8" square state bird applique blocks from my quilt 'Symbols of Our Unity'.

The Ring Necked Pheasant is the state bird of South Dakota. The pattern contains the layout for the applique and detailed embroidery instructions. Both left and right handed instructions are included for the embroidery.

This 8" pattern is perfect for creating a mini-quilt to fit the Ackfeld 12" x 14" table stand. Make one for that friend who resides in South Dakota.

  • One 9" sq background fabric
  • One 7" sq light orange brown fabric for bird (see photo)
  • One 5" square medium teal fabric for bird (see photo)
  • One 8" square light gray fabric for bird (see photo)
  • One 3" square medium red for bird (see photo)
  • One 5" square light yellow for bird (see photo)
  • One 5" square medium orange brown for bird (see photo)
  • One 4" square light brown for bird (see photo)
  • One 5" square medium gray for rocks
  • Plastic template material
  • Applique thread to match fabrics
  • DMC embroidery floss, grays-#414, 415, 535, tans-#738, 739, 437, black #310, yellow-#725, medium brown-#838, white
  • DMC embroidery floss, two different greens
