Wouldn't all those lines of stitching create small ridges which would then show up on anything you ironed, particularly thinner cloth? I love the idea and may just make it as a decorative cover but I'm not sure how practical it is.

If you press your seams open, you shouldn't have them show up.

I was so excited when my daughter sent me this message on facebook. I love to quilt but I am quite a beginner. I have completed several projects and have taught others to make small things. This ironing board cover will be a wonderful project for me. Wish me luck!

I am going to use scraps and not fat quarters. How long are the diagonal strips?

Desperate use your ironing board width as a guide for cutting. I would suggest cutting strips 3/4 x the width of the widest part of your board. The pattern will be updated to accommodate for this.

I can't even find the Pattern Details tab.

On my screen, there is Pattern Details a vertical line, and Comments. Click on Pattern Details, then look to the right. Pattern Details is the page you got when you clicked the link on Facebook (assuming that is how you got here).

Or, just click the picture to the right of these comments, assuming you are seeing what I am seeing. It will take you to the Pattern Details tab.

Problems with this pattern. First, it would be great with jelly roll strips but no length is ever gvien for the strips cut and this creates a lot of waste with fabric trimmed off. I ended up using this waste and cutting the strips into 2 1/2 blocks for the bottom section. Also, when I finished the sewing of the bottom to the top, the cover still came out very short--over a foot. Is this perhaps for a smaller type of ironing board because it was just too short for mine. I will have to use some of those left over jelly strips to lengthen the bottom.

Thanks for your feedback fancydancer. I'll update the pattern shortly to accommodate for the length of strips and for ironing board size variations!

I have only quilted once before and that was almost 40 yrs. ago - so this is probably a REALLY dumb question. You gave instructions about the batting. I read and re-read looking for anything about backing.
My question: If you don't put backing material, how can it possibly be washed and dryed? I guess backing is simply implied...but being a real beginner, I'm not sure!
Thanks for your pattern and your help!
