Basic Skills Necessary:

  • be able to applique, any method you like
  • be able to cut bias
  • basic sewing & quilting skills

Pattern Description:

This is one of our latest designs in our Animal Alphabet Series. O is for Owl is just wonderful! This quilt has cheery rows of pennants all across that are made to be 3-D. The technique is super simple and has a wonderful affect. The finished quilt is 42" X 54" and can be easily made for a girl or a boy depending on your fabric choices.

Sizing / Finished Measurements:

  • 42" X 54"

Materials:

  • 1 1/2 yards of background fabric-we used baby blue
  • 1 1/4 yards of fabric for flag lines- we used light gray
  • 10-18 fat quarters for flags or 53 different pieces 4.5" X 9" for flags
  • 3 yards of lightweight interfacing
  • Scraps of fabric for the owl applique: 6"X8" for the owl body 6" X 8" for the wings and tail 4" X 5" for the owl belly 2" X 4" for the feet 3" X 5" for the eyes 2"X2" for the beak
  • 1 5/8th yard of backing fabric
  • 1 1/4 yard of fabric for bias binding

You Will Also Need:

  • Roxanne's or a similar glue for basting
  • marking pencil & water soluable marking pen
  • bit of embroidery floss for owl eyes
  • clover awl is helpful
