Basic Skills Necessary:

  • Basic strip piecing
  • Construction of setting triangles and corner units for a diagonal quilt layout

Pattern Description:

This is a fun quilt to make, easy to construct and quick to come together. The surprise is in the diagonal layout of the blocks which gives a braided appearance.
The inspiration for the quilt came from the newly constructed playground down the road with its bright colours, hence the title "Let's Play".

Sizing / Finished Measurements:

  • 45 1/2in x 56 3/4in (115.6cm x 144.1cm)


  • 130cm (1 3/8yd) of white background print
  • 80cm (7/8yd) of blue tone-on-tone print
  • 40cm (1/2yd) each of green, purple, red, and yellow tone-on-tone print
  • 50cm (5/8yd) of blue striped fabric for the binding
  • 130cm x 158cm (51in x 62in) coordinating backing fabric
  • 130cm x 158cm (51in x 62in) batting

You Will Also Need:

  • Neutral cotton thread for piecing
  • Invisible Monofilament thread for in-the-ditch-quilting
  • White cotton thread for freemotion quilting of the motifs
  • Rotary cutter, quilting ruler and mat
  • General sewing supplies
  • Companion Angle (optional)
