Pattern Description:

This is a fun, fast, and easy "in-the-hoop" embroidery project that is perfect for gifts, or to have around your home. This mug rug features an embroidery dolmen (a Neolithic structure found throughout Ireland, made of extremely large stones), and a tri-spiral design like the ones found at Newgrange.

This pattern includes step-by-step instructions with photographs, and an additional harp applique embroidery design for use with other projects. Available embroidery formats: ART, HUS, JEF, PEC, PES, and VIP.

Sizing / Finished Measurements:

  • Mug rug is 8" x 5.5" when finished.


  • No Show Mesh Stabilizer by Floriani
  • 5.5" x 8" piece of batting (like Quilter's Dream Blend)
  • One 6.5" x 9" piece of backing fabric
  • One 2.5" x 40" strip binding fabric
  • Temporary spray adhesive (like Sulky or 505)
  • One 5.5" background square
  • Two 1.75" x 3.5" strips
  • Three 1.5" x 3.5" strips (two or three fabrics)
  • One 4" x 5.5" green fabric
  • One 5.5" x 5.5" blue fabric

You Will Also Need:

  • Hoop with a 8" x 5.5" stitching field.
