(7) Name: 'Quilting : Buoy 3 Beginner Paper Piecing
Buoy 3 Beginner Paper Piecing Buoy 3 mock-up
Buoy 3 Beginner Paper Piecing Buoy 3
Buoy 3 Beginner Paper Piecing Buoy 3

Basic Skills Necessary:

  • simple sewing
  • basic paper piecing skills (or click link to go to my basic paper piecing tutorial)

Pattern Description:

If you've wanted to learn how to foundation paper piece, but have not yet tried, this is the pattern for you. I have created my very first tutorial walking through the steps required to make Buoy 1, which is very similar to this basic block. This pattern consists of only one foundation piece and is suitable for beginners.

One of the common sights along the Maine coast is the ubiquitous harbor buoy. They come in many shapes and sizes, and can be seen in just about any color combination,
often adorning the sides of old sheds and boat houses.

This pattern can stand alone, either framed on the wall or with added borders to make a wall hanging, mug rug, or table runner, or multiple blocks can be combined to create a pillow, wall hanging, table runner, or even as an element of a larger nautical-themed quilt.

Feel free to be creative with the color combinations. Use solids to create an accent piece for your beach home, or
even use bright ocean kids' fabric to make a perfect accessory for your nautical nursery. Buoys 1 and 2 are also available in my Craftsy shop.

This pdf quilt block pattern includes two different sizes: 4"x8" and 5"x10".

This pattern does not contain basic paper piecing instructions, but you can find a tutorial with instructions on my blog at http://nightquilter.com/2014/06/03/tutorial-basic-foundation-paper-piecing/

Enjoy! I can't wait to see what you create!!
