Wall Hanging

Skill Level:

small skill level requirement Beginner

Basic Skills Necessary:

  • Basic quilting skills, use of fusible web

Pattern Description:

What says "summer" more clearly than a new mix and match beach wardrobe?

This little quilt is large enough for a lap quilt and small enough to use as a bright, summer wall hanging.

This quilt was made with a layer cake, but it could easily be sewn with just a few choice fabrics or with colorful scraps.

The layer cake used here is from Moda's new "High Street" fabrics. To this I added a light gray fabric for the applique blocks. So bright and summery, and I have fabrics left over to make something else. A table runner using three or four of the templates might be fun.

Designed with squares surrounded by simple sashings and cornerstones, this quilt is perfect for beginning quilters. The appliques are quickly attached with fusible web and stitched around with a machine zigzag stitch.

Full size templates for the square blocks are included. The instructions are detailed and filled with helpful photos and diagrams.

Please feel free to contact me with any questions you may have though email or on my Facebook page.

Sizing / Finished Measurements:

  • 40" x 40"

  • One layer cake or 1 1/2 yards light colored solid or small print for applique block background . 1/2 yard medium print for cornerstone squares and rectangles. 1 1/2 yards mixed prints for sashings and applique pieces. 1 1/2 yards backing fabric. 1/2 yard fabric for binding.

I started designing patterns as an experiment, and no one was more surprised than I was to find that other people liked my little designs. I try to write my patterns in such a way that beginning quilters can ...
