This is stunning! Does the pattern include how to quilt the project?

Hi - wondering if you'd share the quilting design info? Thanks :)

for the feathered vines, I draw a center spine "S" shaped, then quilt teardrops up one side and down the other. I don't quilt the center spine, but just brush off the chalk. Feathered center wreath: Chalk a line around a CD holder. You know, the kind with the stem up the middle that holds a bunch of CDs. Then I create those feather/teardrops inside the circle and outside, using the chalked line as a reference. Does that help? I should probably diagram that quilting. I quilted on my longarm, but the motifs work well on a home machine, or hand-quilting, too.

Thinking about buying this pattern but need to ask what size are the blocks, I have the pattern in a 6 1/2" but it is not big enough for the size quilt I need.

This one uses 9" finished blocks, and makes a 72" center before borders.

Bought pattern and made this quilt and it turned out just beautiful. Easy and looks like it would be hard but it isn't. Will make another sometime!

Thanks for the pattern. I really love it and will make it soon. I've never done mitered corners before. I really want to learn how. After reading the directions I still don't know how to get the right angles on the cuts. Can someone help me? Maybe I missed something. Do I need a special ruler?

Deonn on craftsy.com

This is a good question, Gloria. The method in the pattern describes how to cut your mitered corners before stitching them to the quilt, A long ruler (6-1/2" x 24-1/2") with a 45-degree angle marked on it helps to make the mitered cuts before sewing the borders to the quilt. I find this technique so much more accurate so the quilt will lie flat and keep the corners square. You're welcome to contact me if you need further clarification to make this quilt. deonn@quiltscapesqs.com.

Could this pattern be done in a quilt as you go project?

I think so - you would start with the center squares and build from there.

DOES THIS CARPENTER'S STAR PATTERN COME IN A KIT?

Deonn on craftsy.com
Deonn  October 24, 2012

I don't have this in a kit, sorry. As you can see from the examples, the quilt uses a couple of fabrics you love that complement each other, plus a background print. Choose one of the main prints for the border, or add another fabric choice. For Evan's quilt I used browns and greens, his favorites.

What size is this pattern, I need one for a queen size.

Deonn on craftsy.com

This makes an 88" x 88" comforter. Add more borders to enlarge the quilt. I have seen it with an additional top and bottom border (about 6" wide), with either pieced blocks or plain fabric to grow the quilt to a queen size.

Make the quilt using 8" finished size blocks for the center (64 x 64"). Add an extra 8" border at the top and bottom of the quilt to lengthen, then add borders your desired size to bring it up to the needed size.

New to quilting. How much would I add to this to make it king size?

Deonn on craftsy.com
Deonn  January 14, 2013
Flag as inappropriate

Hi, Sandra,
I use this size (88" x 88") as a comfortor which gives about a 6" drop on the sides of my king size bed. By adding wider/more borders, you can extend it to have a drop as long as you'd like. Renee's quilt is 98" x 98" and she simply added an extra middle border and made her outer border wider for a longer drop length to cover her mattress. The center star without borders measures 72" x 72", and centers perfectly on a king size mattress. Let me know if you have any other questions. Thanks! ~ Deonn

Was the quilting done on a long arm or on a home sewing machine?

Deonn on craftsy.com

Hi, Pixi, I quilted this on my longarm, but the feather motifs and stippling and grids can be easily done on a home sewing machine, working in sections. I chalk a spine for the feathers and feathered wreaths, then quilt teardrop shapes around the spine.
