Several years ago a high school buddy (a cowboy and horse whisperer) gave my wife and me some biscuits for breakfast. We were visiting him and his wife at their ranch in Central Oregon. We were so pleased with the biscuits that he gave us the recipe and a small amount of starter. Over the years I have shared this with many of my family and friends. Because of the difficulty of transporting the starter I decided to research the process of making my own. That recipe is included in the biscuit recipe. The name "Chuckwagon sourdough biscuits" was chosen because several years ago my buddy was cowboying for a rancher in Central Oregon and he was given some starter by the chuckwagon cook. This starter must be over a hundred years old, (my guess). That makes for a good story, but the starter that I included in this recipe will be your own and brand new, It makes wonderful biscuits.
