I am newer to knitting but this seems like all the stitches I can do. I have a question about the increases. I feel like a dope but how do I increase? Yarn over or knit front and back or something else?

You can look on YouTube for a tutorial, may be easier than trying to explain. You knit into the front of the stitch, but before dropping it off the needle, knit into the back of it and then drop it off the needle. This link probably wont be clickable, but copy and paste it into your browser and it should help. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uWpvYqyeNl8

Ok great! Got it! I am actually doing that stitch on a blanket I am working on so I already have a feel for it. Thank you so much. I'll be starting this project shortly for my step-daughter. It's so cute. I'll post when I finish but I'm a slow knitter. :)

I finished knitting my bear, but have not attempted to put it together. It's rather scary at this point. I'd like to knit the sweater and diaper but can't figure out where to get the free download. I have purchased both HugaBear and Need a Hug Bear patterns. What am I doing wrong about finding the clothes download?

This bear doesn't have a diaper pattern, he does have a sweater, as does Huggable Bear. There is also a step by step guide to help you to assemble your bears, links are below but I don't think they are clickable so you will have to copy and paste them.

They are all free downloads, just add them to your cart and check out.

No, just for that one row, its to mark the end of the muzzle, you'll see why when you come to sew up the head. Have you see the step by step making up instructions, they are free to download so please pick up a copy to help you create your bear :)

I read somewhere that after we purchased the pattern that there may be a sweater pattern that we can download. Was I just dreaming or if not, where do I go to get the sweater pattern? Thanks so much! I am so excited about starting my bear!

If you click on my name you will see all the patterns I've designed and you will see the free downloads, just click on the one you want. There are free sweater downloads for all the bears and a step by step making up instructions that will "fit" each bear.

what are you using for contrast yarn for feet and paws

Gypsycream on craftsy.com
Gypsycream  January 10, 2013

For the contrasts on these particular bears I used a soft cotton chenille in a double knit/lightweight worsted. I appreciate that its hard to find chenille these days, just doesn't seem to be manufactured for some reason. Any double knit/lightweight worsted would work OK though.

Pat I have knitted your Need A Hug Bear quite a few times along with several other of your patterns and I have to say the pattern is so easy and the instructions on putting it together so detailed that I must say I believe a new knitter could turn out a beautiful bear without a problem at all. I never dreamed that I could make one of these beautiful bears but with your encouragement I have. Now it is on to dog, cat, rabbit, and 12 pocket bears. My winter will be warm and cozy and full of knitting! Thank you so very much for such a wonderful little bear and such an easy pattern.

what yarn do you use for your bear in the window. Is it a brand available in the US?

Gypsycream on craftsy.com
Gypsycream  April 19, 2012

Hi, I'm not sure which one you are referring to. One is Stylecraft Gypsy, its now discontinued in the UK. Another one is Stylecraft Eskimo, this is still available, just. Eyelash yarn is getting harder to get, mostly I use Yarn Paradise these days. Its a Turkish based company but their prices are very good and shipping very fast.

But any eyelash is suitable for these patterns. Red Heart do a good one and I've a feeling that Lion Brand do too.

I would like to make this for a newborn and therefore do not want to use eyelash as it comes out too easily, especially if someone were to try and eat it!

Can you advise on what yarn to use if I were to do a non hairy version?

Thanks.

I'm with you on not using fur or eyelash for babies. I've done these in Sirdar Snowflake Double Knit (Worsted, 8ply). I think Bernat do something similar or Red Heart, think its called Moon and Stars, its a fleece yarn especially for babies. Or I've also used a Double Knit cotton bamboo, a bit expensive but it knits up so soft and is easy to wash.

Hope these suggestions help :)

Ah now the pussy cat! Yes there will be one but, and its a big but, I'm having a fight with the nose/muzzle, just not getting it right, but for a cat I design a pretty good fox :-)!! It will be done promise. I'm giving it a little break and working on a bear knitting kit just now, everything you need to knit a bear bar the filling, knitting needles, yarn and a CD of patterns, eyes, nose, even a sewing up needle, all housed in a pretty ECO cotton bag. Then back to the cat!!
