(6) Name: 'Knitting : Minikitti

Basic Skills Necessary:

  • knitting
  • knitting in the round
  • decreasing
  • increasing

Pattern Description:

Minikitti is knit in the round on DPNs. The kitty pictured uses a fingering weight handspun yarn knit on size 0 needles. This makes a kitten about 5" tall from paw to eartip. You could make him bigger by going up in both your yarn size and needle size. You will want a nice tight stitch--the better to keep in the stuffing (and optional catnip!)--so go down a needle size or two from what your yarn label recommends.

Minikitti will keep you, or your favorite kitten, company for years and years. Knit with fuzzy angora yarn for a soft furry halo or, even better, handspin your own cat's hair for a beloved kitty heirloom. Our sample was knit with a handspun fingering weight cat hair yarn, with fiber generously donated by Egon the cat. Fill minikitti with a bit of catnip for an extra-special gift to your cat!
