Pattern Description:

Meridian ~ a nautical inspired unisex sweater designed for 18" American Girl/Boy Dolls. Add a splash of color with this jaunty short-sleeved unisex sweater to your doll's summer wardrobe. Meridian offers an introduction in working with colorwork known as stranded knitting, with line-by-line written instructions including charts for colorwork reference given throughout in a new easy to read update format

Pattern Note: Worked flat; back and forth in rows

Pattern Features: The 'stranded colorwork', featured has been written out with line-by-line instructions given including charts for color-work reference, along with variations offered for a quick change of color. Set in short sleeves that feature ribbing matching the welt of sweater, a rolled crew neckline created from picked up stitches and back-button closure for ease of dressing.

Construction: Worked from the bottom up in one piece to armhole divide, including back button-bands, then each section is worked individually

Skill Level:
Easy - Intermediate: Project using basic stitches, colorwork changes, and simple shaping and finishing

Stranded Knitting Note: Stranded knitting, that is working with two colors, the color not in use is stranded at back of work. I made use of the British right-handed method; picking up and dropping color as required.

Notions: 5 Buttons size 1/2" (12mm), 2 extra Buttons needed for optional decoration on each sleeve cuff, Darning Needle

Designer's Note:
For a finishing touch, pair with my Newsboy Cap as shown on my former Pleasant Co boy, Jaden or pair with my Eyelet Beret as worn by my American Girl, Saige


6 stitches and 7 rows = 1 inch in Stockinette Stitch


  • Pair each of 3.25mm, 3.75mm knitting needles
  • 150 - 180 yards Medium #4 worsted weight yarn (or 8ply Aran)
  • including scraps for contrast color

You Will Also Need:

  • 5 Buttons, 2 extra buttons needed for optional sleeve cuff decoration
  • Darning Needle

Suggested yarn:

180 yards of Worsted weight

Preferred Brand/Yarn:
