Basic Skills Necessary:

  • Garter (knit) Stitch
  • Knitting in the round on double pointed needles
  • Short Row Shaping (fully explained in the pattern)
  • K2tog

Pattern Description:

A Big Owl, the perfect size for cuddling. Big Owl can be knitted as a stuffed toy or as a pajama case. Instructions for both are included in this pattern.

For an ADVENTUROUS BEGINNER knitter because the construction uses short row shaping (explained in the pattern) and a little bit of knitting in the round on dpns. Parts of the owl are knitted separately and then sewn on.

16 sts and 32 rows = 4" in garter stitch

Sizing / Finished Measurements:

  • 10" tall


  • Bulky weight yarn: approx 150 yds main color and 20 yds yellow
  • US size 9 (5.5 mm) straight needles or size needed to obtain gauge
  • US size 9 (5.5 mm) double pointed needles
  • Tapestry Needle
  • Fiberfill

You Will Also Need:

  • Colored felt for eyes
  • For pajama case, two 1" buttons
  • Thread/Embroidery floss to sew on eyes

Suggested yarn:

170 yards of Bulky weight
