Basic Skills Necessary:

  • knit
  • purl
  • knit in the round
  • simple increases and decreases
  • simple crochet

Pattern Description:

One of these lovely creatures lives in my garden. I used it as my model for this pattern. Cute and gentle, iconic Australian Wildlife toy, guaranteed not to eat the rosebuds!
Knit yourself one of these beauties! Get kids to appreciate the local fauna.
The instructions include detailed steps and pictures.
You will need some 8 ply wool in different colours and DPN's in size 2.5mm or US2
Finished toy will be about 9cm or 3.5inches high and 28 cm or 11 inches long.
Suitable for babies and children of all ages!

this is not important. If you use thicker yarn you will get a larger possum and if you use thinner
yarn you will get a smaller possum.
All that is important that the needle size is less than the recommended on the band size to get a
tight, firm knit so that the polyester stuffing does not show.

Sizing / Finished Measurements:

  • Size:28 cm or 11 inches long and 9cm or 3.5 inches high


  • 25 g of 8 ply wool in dark brown
  • 25g of 8 ply wool in beige
  • Remnants of light pink and dark pink 8 ply wool
  • remnant of light brown yarn
  • Set of 2.5mm or US2 knitting needles DPN's

You Will Also Need:

  • darning needle
  • crochet hook
  • toy filler
  • nylon fishing line for whiskers
