Basic Skills Necessary:

  • knit
  • purl
  • increases
  • decreases
  • knit in the round
  • pick up stitches

Pattern Description:

These amazing little creatures are very much endangered these days. Cute and gentle, iconic Australian Wildlife toy, at least the soft toy version is easily created!
Knit yourself one of these beauties! Get kids to appreciate the local fauna.
The instructions include detailed steps and pictures.
You will need some 8 ply wool in different colours and DPN's in size 2.5mm or US2
Finished toy will be about 8cm or 3inches high and 24 cm or 9.5 inches long.
Suitable for babies and children of all ages!

this is not really important
If you use thicker yarn you will get a bigger Bilby and if you use a thinner one you will get a smaller one!
Just make sure you use needles about 3 sizes smaller than recommended to get nice firm fabric for stuffing

Sizing / Finished Measurements:

  • 10 cm or 4 inches high and 27 cm or 10.5 inches long


  • 25 g 8 ply wool yarn grey
  • 25 g 8 ply wool yarn white
  • remnants of pink and black 8 ply wool yarn

You Will Also Need:

  • set of DPN's size 2.5mm
  • darning needle
  • crochet hook
  • toy filler
  • nylon monofilament or cotton twine
