Basic Skills Necessary:

  • Standing monkey - basic knitting skills, casting on, increasing and decreasing, picking up stitches.
  • Sitting monkey includes short rows technique.
  • Basic sewing skills to sew the pieces together.

Pattern Description:

This pattern is for two styles of hand knitted sock monkey. The monkeys are knitted using two needles.

The standing monkey is approx 19 cm [71/2 inches] high. The sitting down monkey is approx 15cm [6 inches] seated.

The monkeys' muzzles are styled to look like the original Rockford red heel sock monkey.

The sitting down monkey also has a shaped red behind to help him stay in a sitting position.

Both monkeys sport an optional red scarf.

Apart from the tail (which is measured), all measurements are counted in rows, so the pattern is easy to scale up or down by changing needle sizes and yarn weights.

Sizing / Finished Measurements:

  • Standing 71/2 inches
  • Sitting 6 inches seated

  • 1 ball Double Knit (US: Sport) (Aus: Eight Ply) tweed effect yarn, a small amount of red and white yarn in a similar weight. 3mm knitting needles or equivalent, 4mm needles for casting on the body.

You Will Also Need:

  • Fiberfill stuffing, yarn sewing needle.
