The stitches to cast on (83 or 99) are multiples of 16 (5 x 16 = 80 and 16 x 6 = 96) plus 3. Were you perhaps adding 3 stitches each end? If you cast on the right number of stitches, and work the pattern, it should come out right. The extra stitches are for the side borders.

Once you get to the "repeat between " section of the pattern, each repeat is 16 stitches. It can be helpful to place markers between repeats until the pattern has been established.

love this pattern, however, the math is checking out for me. It say's; Cathedral Arches Lace (Multiple of 16 sts + 3) . I must be doing something wrong, because every time I count the stitches, I get 18 at the beginning and the end. What am I doing wrong. I can not get it to come out right. I have tried too many times (25+) ewww

oh yeah, the beginning and end are 18, the other rep's are 16 (that would be after the beginning rep and before the end rep. someone help.

I don't know what it is. I just can't do this pattern. I have probably ripped it out a million times. the yarn is destroyed. I count, but then I count and I am way over or way under. Don't know what you can tell me. I thought I knew how to count. oh well.

This is lovely, but how many yards or metres does it take?

I think my earlier estimate was inaccurate -- one 1.1 lb skein of DiVe Zenith yarn would be about 500 g, and it took two (though not all of the 2nd skein), so the weight would be about 1000 g, yardage approximately 2,200 yds.
For the lightweight version (I am working on one now), it would take about 5 skeins of Louet KidLin lace, or about 1,250 yds.

It is beautiful, but if I put that much work into it, I'm afraid it would stay with me. Do you have a designation as to experience needed to make it?

I would say a it is a project for a fairly experienced knitter -- it would be best if you have done some lace work before.

I've been searching for over a year for the "right" prayer shawl for myself. This is it!
Must finish the grankids projects first then my turn.
