Train Engine Blanket

Basic Skills Necessary:

  • Loom Knitting
  • Double Knitting
  • Colorwork

Pattern Description:

This train engine colorwork design can be used for a number of different
things. You can use it as a pattern to incorporate into a bag or sweater
or make a back and sew it together for a pillow. You could even use
cotton or wool yarn for a dishcloth or pot holder. The little ones in your life will love this whimsical design.


13 st per 4", 14 rows per 4"

Sizing / Finished Measurements:

  • approximately 30" h x 33" w


  • small gauge knitting board (5/16" or 1/4" between pins) with at least 35 pegs, spacers set at 1/2"
  • 1200 yards #3 or 4 yarn in solid color(s) - you can choose to do the outside in a checkerboard pattern of 2 colors
  • Small balls of yarn are all you need for the contrasting colors - make sure the yarn weight is comparable
