Just a little cube, that's all!
Someone wanted a cube design, so I did it. My daughter saw the cube and wanted one, so I made it. The kittens saw the one my daughter had, and took it - so I made her another one.
What I'm trying to say is, although there is no reason for knitting these cubes, they are visually pleasing and people like them. So go and knit one.
If you're still on the fence, they have a seamless construction and use Kitchener Stitch for closing the top with a link to a Kitchener tutorial for those of you who need to brush up on the technique.
6 sts/8 rows = 1" in stockinette stitch

She has been knitting since she was 5, and couldn't imagine life without needles in hand. Past projects bring memories of life events back to her as vividly as certain scents do for others.
Right now she tries to fit knitting and designing around looking after her two preschool daughters - secretly hoping that soon they'll be able to do the sample knitting for her!
