Basic Skills Necessary:

  • magic loop
  • make 1
  • wrap and turn
  • moss or seed stitch
  • circular cast on

Pattern Description:

I designed this bag as I wanted some hanging storage for my daughter's bedroom that could hang from a single hook and store some of her soft toys in. It would also be perfect for keeping your balls of yarn in!

Maisie's felted storage bag is seamless and knitted in the round, using the magic loop technique. It has an integral handle, with no sewing involved in the bag itself. It is embellished after felting with knitted flowers and button centres.

The top uses short rows (or partial knitting) at the back, which makes the front sit open to reveal its contents, making it perfect for displaying soft toys or your yarn stash.

My original bag was made from handspun yarn that is only just super chunky or super bulky. It can be made with any yarn that can be felted easily, but of course, the thicker the yarn, the bigger the bag. The cream bag pictured is made from 5 balls of Rowan Big Wool, which, after 2 felting cycles, came out at the size stated.

Gauge:

7.5 stitches and 10 rows = 4 inches in Stocking Stitch
