I can't figure out how to start the border. The directions are not really clear on that part.
Hi Artie75 - The border is a little tricky, but if you've made your way through the blanket, you have all the skills you need for success! The border is knitted on, so you will start by casting on 8 additional stitches. Following the notes, every even row (WS row) will end with a K2tog. i.e. - Row 2: P6, k F & B, K2, k2tog. This will join the edging and afghan. You will join one or two stitches on every WS row and you'll need to carefully count how many repeats you do and where you add the K3togs (per the pattern note above the border stitch pattern), to make the afghan even on each side. The pattern was written without the k2togs because you have to knit the border section for the cast on edge without k2togs and graft this one edge. This is where this pattern is more of a recipe than step by step. If you need additional assistance, please email our Support Team here: http://www.craftsy.com/feedback/submit.Happy knitting!
I think it is very shabby that a quality producer like Lorna's would allow patterns to be uploaded under their name with out someone at Lorna's test knitting the instructions (I'm not blaming the pattern author: even professional lace pattern writers need proof reading or proof knitting.) -- an experienced lace knitter could probably catch most of the errors simply by reading the pattern. It seems people are left to frustration after a considerable investment in yarn, (and possibly those circular needles.) That's not right! If Lorna's Laces lets this be under their name they ought to fix it, pronto.
I am having a big problem with the 2nd section of this pattern - the fern lace pattern. On row 1 I increased on each side of the 4 corner markers, putting 3 stitches between corner and lace marker. On row 2 it says knit to pattern markers and work stitches as written below between the pattern markers (31 stitches) The stitch count does not match. If you K3, do the stitches between * twice (20 stitches) and end with slip 1, K1, psso, k3 you only use 28 stitches. If you count the K3 at the beginning as the 3 stitches between corner marker and lace marker, and the ending 3 as stitches between lace marker and corner marker you end up with 30 stitches remaining between lace markers, but in row 4 you now have 4 stitches between corner and lace marker so what about the 2 K stitches at the beginning and end of the row pattern? I love what I have so far, but I have taken out and knitted rows 1-4 twice and can't make it come out. Please help!
Just an FYI- In making your pattern, rows 8, 10,12, 14 in the first part are written wrong, they should say p4, k9. p4 (not p4, k9, k4). it is easy to figure out that they should say purl, but I just wanted to let you know. Thanks for the beautiful pattern.
Round 32 says to purl 33, but, not what to do with the rest of the stitches.. I don't understand and this is not a short row pattern. Please explain, row 32 and 33.. Thank you
