Basic Skills Necessary:

  • Stitches used in this pattern are knit and purl.

Pattern Description:

This pattern is for an easy, reversible afghan or lap throw. It can be knit in any worsted weight yarn. (Or try "baby" yarn for a baby blanket.)

The pattern is written and is easily remembered for a perfect project while sitting in front of the t.v, or at a sit 'n knit!

The afghan has a large garter stitch border, and then "cubes" set in a background of stockinette/reverse stockinette stitch.


4 stitches/inch in stockinette stitch

Sizing / Finished Measurements:

  • Afghan - 50" x 60"
  • Lap Throw - 43" x 56"


  • Afghan size - Noro Silk Garden, color 84, 17 skeins.
  • Throw size - Cascade 220 Superwash, color 867, 6 balls
  • One size 8 (5.0mm) circular knitting needle, 32"
  • Stitch markers, scissors, darning needle.
