Circs would be fine, magic loop method would work best. Whatever suits you, its just a knit in the round!

Great idea, great pattern. I started to knit per the instructions - worsted weight wool on #10's. It was coming out WAY big. So I'm using a lighter weight yarn and #8 needles. Still seems a tad large but it should be okay. Was I missing something with the original instructions?fyi. I am using circulars instead of dp's and it seems to be working fine...just have to be sure to keep track of the beginning of each round and take care.
Circs should be fine. I'm a really tight knitter so my gauge is usually off.
