Basic Skills Necessary:

  • Garter stitch
  • Pick up stitches

Pattern Description:

An afghan that can also be used as a floor game! Make this for your favourite backgammon player.

This is not a conventional knitting pattern. You do not have to work to a particular gauge. If you can knit garter stitch you can knit this. The only extra skill needed is to pick up stitches, down the sides, to knit the border. Make it in any yarn of your choice. The finished size will vary according to the yarn you choose.

The playing pieces are made from coils of i-cord or French knitting.

A colouring-in sheet is included so that you can try out your own colourways before you begin.

Sizing / Finished Measurements:

  • 125 cm (50") square


  • Aran yarn (Other yarns can be used)
  • Background ; 1000 metres (1100 yards)
  • Triangles ; 300 metres (330 yards) of each colour
  • Borders ; 350 metres (380 yards)
  • Needles appropriate for your chosen yarn
  • Circular needle for borders
